Joseph komt op 3-9-1860 vanuit Goes in Rotterdam aan als huisknecht van de familie Fransen v.d.Putte. Hij komt met deze familie mee.
Hij is bediende van de minister van Koloniën Fransen van de Putte en komt met hem en zijn gezin mee uit Rotterdam. Zijn adres wordt Bezuidenhout 35c (BR 1861-1879 deel 70 blad 242 suppletoir reg.)
Na zijn huwelijk vertrekt het gezin Opperman op 22-5-1866 naar Harlingen.(BR deel 72 blad 97 sup. reg.) Daar wordt als beroep conducteur vermeld.
Op 2-10-1866 komt het gezin, met kind,terug vanuit Harlingen naar Den Haag (BR deel 72 blad 145 sup. reg.).
Hij woont vanaf 21-3-1910 Schedeldoekshaven 83; vanaf 24-9-1918 Nieuwe Havenstraat 47.
Joseph gaat vanaf 6-1-1920 bij zijn dochter Cornelia Johanna en haar man Fransiscus Giese inwonen: Maasstraat 18; dit duurt tot aan zijn dood in 1921.
