      Wilt u hem met ons gedenken in de avondwake op vrijdag 4 september om 19.00 uur in de parochiekerk van St. Jozef, St. Josephstraat te Almelo.
      Aansluitend is er gelegenheid tot condoleren en afscheid nemen van 19.45-20.00 in de aula van de O.L.V. van Altijddurende Bijstandkerk te Maria-Parochie.
      De plechtig gezongen uitvaart wordt gehouden op zaterdag 5 september om 10.00 uur in de parochiekerk van St. Jozef, St.Josephstraat te Almelo, waarna de crematieplechtigheid zal plaatsvinden om 12.30 uur in het crematorium "Enschede"(ingang Zuid)te Usselo
      U wordt uitgenodigd hierbij aanwezig te zijn.

      In dankbare herinnering aan Bernard Steffens echtgenoot van Annie Steffens- Koopman. Hij werd geboren op 7 november 1916 in Almelo. Hij overleed op 1 september 1998 in het Twenteborgziekenhuis te Almelo. Op 5 september 1998 namen we afscheid van hem tijdens een Eucharistieviering in de Sr.Jozefkerk eveneens in Almelo, waarna wij hem begeleid hebben naar het crematorium "Enschede" te Usselo.
      Na een lang ziekbed moeten wij nu definitief afscheid gaan nemen van een lieve man, vader en opa. Het doet ons pijn, dat we hem nu al uit handen moeten geven. Maar we weten ook dat hem zo verder lijden bespaard is gebleven. De goede God is hem genadig geweest. Wij nemen afscheid van een man wiens leven doortrokken is van plichtsbesef en van een betrokkenheid op de samenleving om hem heen. Op de allereerste plaats was hij er altijd voor zijn vrouw Annie, zijn kinderen en zijn kleinkinderen. In die zin was hij een echt familiemens en daarmee ook een gezelligheidsmens. In de vrije tijd heeft hij zo heel wat karweitjes opgeknapt voor zijn kinderen. Ook vele neven en nichten heeft hij op die manier vooruit geholpen. Zo heeft Bernard veel werk verzet in zijn leven. Werk dat niet altijd betaald werd, maar dat vond hij niet erg. Zo heeft hij,samen met zijn broers, meegeholpen aan de verbouw van buurtcentrum de Trefhoek. Een vrijwilligerswerk dat niet altijd even goed werd gewaardeerd. Zo heeft Bernard meer dan 30 jaar bij Palthe gewerkt. Daar toonde hij dezelfde inzet. "Het werk moet af", zei hij dan. Je zou kunnen zeggen, dat geloof en kerk ook een centrale en prominente plaats innamen in zijn lange leven. Zo haalde hij geld op voor de bouw van de St.Jozefkerk. Maar zijn grootste passie was wel het kerkkoor van de St.Jozefparochie. Daar leefde hij helemaal voor. Met name het Gregoriaans lag hem na aan het hart. "Dat mogen ze nooit afschaffen", zei hij dan. Zo heeft hij vele uren van zijn vrije tijd in het koor gestoken. Van het sjouwen van de kerkboeken tot en met het meezingen van elke rouw- en trouwmis. Als het enigszins kon sloeg Bernard nooit een keer over. Vader probeerde met het zingen bij het koor zijn diepe geloof tot uiting te brengen. Want hij was een gelovig mens. Met name de devotie tot Maria betekende veel voor hem. Bij Maria kon hij altijd terecht met al zijn vreugde en zijn zorgen. Wij nemen afscheid van een hardwerkende en gelovige man. Wij geloven dat hij nu bij God is. Op het laatst van zijn leven zei hij nog: "Straks zal ik zingen in het hemelse koor." Wij bidden God, dat Hij Bernard Steffens hiermee genadig mag zijn.
      Mijn lieve man, onze lieve vader en opa, bedankt voor alles!
      Wij willen u allen hartelijk bedanken voor het medeleven dat u getoond heeft tijdens de ziekte en na het overlijden van mijn lieve man, onze lieve vader en opa.
