Herman Noorlander is 20 jaar voorzitter geweest van muziekvereniging "Concordia" en heeft de vereniging van een minimaal aantal leden naar een grote bloeiende vereniging gebracht. Ook heeft hij vele jaren in de concourscommissie gezeten die elk jaar in Krimpen aan de Lek een solistenconcours organiseerden voor muzikanten uit de krimpenerwaard en omstreken. De laatste jaren was hij de bibliothecaris van de vereniging dat hij naar ieders volle tevredenheid deed. Herman Noorlander is in verband met gezondsheidredenen (2005) geen actief spelend lid meer van de vereniging.
Herman Noorlander is benoemd tot lid in de Orde van Oranje Nassau, op 6 juni 2006 reikte burgemeester Ries Jansen hem in gebouw de "Drieklank" de koninklijke onderscheiding uit.
