Het eerste RK kerk(gebouw) op het platteland van Zuid-Beveland staat pas sinds ca 1797 in 's-Heerenhoek en sinds 1801 (idem) te Kwadendamme en kregen die dorpen een eigen pastoor met het omliggend platteland als parochie. Voor die tijd kerkten de katholieken op een zgn kerkhoeve die wisselend over het platteland verspreid lagen. elke zondag een andere. Na 1797 kerkten die van Kapelle in Goes en kregen later ook een bijkerkje dat onder de parochie Goes ressorteerde.

De DTB's van landspastoor van voor die tijd zijn in het parochiearchief van de 's-Heerenhoekse kerk verzeild geraakt. Sommige pastoors noteerden de hoeve waar getrouwd werd en de herkomst van de dopeling. Als dat niet gebeurde wordt dan"per abuis" 's-Heerenhoek als huwelijks- of geboorteplaats aangenomen.
