Een kind van een bevriende familie herinnert zich dat hij de familie Niekerk uitzwaaide toen ze zich gingen melden bij de Duitsers. Daarna kwam Isaac nog een keer bij zijn vrienden in Amsterdam langs omdat hij moest helpen om huizen van gedeporteerde Joden leeg te halen. Hij heeft toen heel de nacht gehuild. Hij kon onderduiken, maar koos ervoor om bij zijn gezin te blijven.
