      Willem de Wit is een zogenaamde geroepene. Tijdens de bouw van huizen aan de Kerkstraat (opdrchtgever zijn oom Klaas) in Kockengen werd hij door de Heer geroepen. Heeft zijn bouwbedrijf verkocht en is gaan studeren aan de Theologische School van de Gereformeerde Gemeenten. Ook zijn broer Roelof is toen geroepen en aan de studie gegaan. Beide waren predikant bij de Gereformeerde Gemeenten. Echter ook in dit genootschap heeft een scheuring plaatsgevonden. Na deze scheuring zaten de broers ieder bij een ander gedeelte van de scheuring. Deze scheuring liep overigens dwars door de familie de Wit heen.
