Notes about Albert "Bert" Haanstra

Bert Haanstra was een Nederlands filmregisseur.

Haanstra volgde de Rijkskweekschool te Hengelo, de Rijksacademie voor Beeldende Kunsten te Amsterdam, en een fotografieopleiding. In 1935 ging hij werken als persfotograaf. Vanaf 1947 was Haanstra professioneel filmer.

Haanstra kreeg maar liefst 78 filmonderscheidingen. Zijn eerste film, De Muiderkring herleeft, kwam uit in 1949. Daarna volgden successen als Fanfare (1958), Bij de beesten af (1972) en Dokter Pulder zaait papavers (1975). Voor zijn documentaire Glas kreeg hij in 1961 een Gouden Palm in het Franse Cannes, nadat hij er in 1958 al een Oscar voor had gekregen. Zijn films Alleman (1964) en Bij de beesten af werden voor diezelfde prijs genomineerd. Deze films, alsmede De stem van het water, tonen Haanstra's specialiteit: het op een geestige wijze portretteren van de samenleving.

Haanstra was Officier in de Orde van Oranje Nassau.
