Notes about Sijbrand Cornelisz Koning

Hij gebruikte altijd de achternaam van zijn vader.

Uit notariële akten, die op hem betrekking hebben, blijkt dat hij als schipper op Amsterdam voer.

Tussen aug en dec 1727 is hij overleden; zijn vrouw Geertje jacobs Bas overleefde hem 40 jaar. Haar naam komt voor in een zeer grrot aantal notariële akten, die meestal handelen over bezit van land, huizen, schapenboeten, enz.

De familie Bas was doopsgezind en had bezittingen in de omgeving van Oosterend.

De kinderen van Sijbrand Cornelisz Koning en Geertje Jacobs Bas leveren een goed voorbeeld van de eigenaardige gewoonte van naamgeving in die tijd. De oudste zoon Pieter heette niet Pieter Sijbrandsz Koning, maar Pieter Sijbrandsz Keijser. Daarmee droeg hij de naam en toenaam van zijn overgrootvader Pieter Dirksz Keijser. De tweede zoon werd naar zijn grootvader van moederszijde Jacob Sijbrandsz Bas genoemd. De overige kinderen Sijbrand, Antje, Jannetje en Cornelis droegen hun vaders naam Koning.

Aangezien zijn broer Dirk alleen een dochter had en zijn broer Meijert kinderloos was, is Sijbrand Cornelisz Koning de stamvader van de geslachten Koning en Keijser.
