Opa heeft gewerkt bij: Politie/Marine(Torpedist) en bijna 40 jaar bij de Hollandse. Stoomboom Maatschappij. Opa kreeg enkele weken voordat hij 40 jaar aan het bedrijf was een ongeluk met de wings(Lier)vlak voor zijn jubileum en werd toen ontslagen omdat het een oude kwaal was. Dus geen gouden klokje en ook geen pensioen. Hij kreeg alleen f.13,66 per week, het soc. minimum. Opa is overleden aan een hersenbloeding. Ook meegedaan aan inhuldigingsfeest van Kon. Wilhelmina in september 1898.Ze zijn op 8 dec.1898 vertrokken naar Amsterdam.
