Notes about Peregrinus Aert Petri Wilhelmi Verhofstadt

Peregrinus Verhofstadt is de stamvader van een in Gemert wijdvertakte familie. Hij was brouwer en herbergier van "De Roode Leeuw" in de huidige Nieuwstraat en was van 1674 tot 1688 voorzitter van de Gemertse schepenbank. Drie van zijn zonen werden priester. Thomas werd deken van Oss, Johannes was de eerste rector van De Mortel en later pastoor te Nuland, Servaas was pastoor te Jutfaas. Een vierde zoon van Peregrinus was de bekende orgelbouwer Mathijs Verhofstadt. Zijn status en aanzien kan thans nog steeds worden afgelezen uit de door hem in het begin van de achttiende eeuw verbouwde statige notariswoning in de Ruyschenberghstraat22. (GR 2-3-1953; 29-7-1960)
