Cor IJpelaan werd opgevoed door zijn grootouders Klaas Stuifbergen en Marijtje Zonneveld; in 1939 werd hij gemobiliseerd te Breezand en Terschelling; tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog, van 1943 tot maart 1945, toen het Sperrgebiet in Castricum was ingesteld, woonden hij en zijn gezin bij de familie Jan de Groot in de Beemster, Oostdijk, nr. 41, waar ook nog twee joodse onderduikers waren; hij had Jan de Grootop Terschelling leren kennen. Aan het eind van de jaren 1950 was hij medeoprichter van de dameshandbalclub Door Inspanning Sterk (D.I.S.), waarin zijn dochters zich weerden.


Marie Houtenbos hertrouwt Castricum, 15 februari 1968 Jan Stad, bouwkundige bij Hoogovens IJmuiden, geboren Zaandijk, 10 juli 1911, zoon van Jaap Stad en Hendrika van de(r) Meij, weduwnaar van Elisabeth C. Joor.
