Roelf Veldhuis was keuterboer. Roelf en Lammigje hadden geen gelukkig huwelijk. Roelf praatte nogal onverschillig over zijn vrouw. Roelf stond haar nooit bij met geld of zorgen. Roelf hield alles voor zichzelf. Lammigje stond goed bekend en bakerde ook bij de mensen. Met de hondenkar ging zr langs de deuren om broden te verkopen. Eens is Lammigje weggelopen. De kinderen verweten hun vader dit. De Familie Veldhuis is verhuist naar de Runde in Emmercompascuum en daar is de moeder van Willem overleden. Willem had drie broers en een zus, Elze, Geert, Willem, Rieks en Rikie.
Rikie was nog maar 10/11 jaar toen haar moeder overleed. Willem’s vader, Roelf Veldhuis, heeft 5 jaar bij Griet en Willem ingewoond. Vader Veldhuis wilde toen niet werken en Willem moest de kost voor hem verdienen. Ze betaalden toen 60 gulden aan huur voor een heel jaar. Ook als vader Veldhuis toch eens wat bij de petroleumboer verdiende gaf hij niets aan de kinderen. Doordat Griet en Willem inmiddels vijf kinderen hadden kon Roelf Veldhuis niet meer blijven. Roelf Veldhuis trok toen in bij zijn zoon Geert (broer van Willem) die naast Griet en Willem woonde. Roelf Veldhuis is een tijdje bij Geert geweest maar dat beviel niet. Toen is hij naar z’n dochter Rikie gegaan die inmiddels getrouwd was en aan kanaal A in Emmercompascuum woonde, daar kon Roelf Veldhuis op de deel wonen. Dat hield ook niet lang stand, dus moest vader Veldhuis naar een oude mannenhuis in Emmen, de Angolina Stichting, op 77 jarige leeftijd is hij daar overleden. Onbekend is waar vader Veldhuis is begraven.
