Jan Gerritszoon Herwijnen is gedoopt op 31 maart 1771 in Zuidland. Hij is op 11 mei 1794 gehuwd met Anna Struijs, geboren 9 februari 1772. Uit het huwelijk tussen Jan Gerritszoon en Anna zijn 12 kinderen geboren. Eén van de kinderen kreeg alsachternaam de naam Herwijnen. Dat was Jacob, geboren 14 februari 1805 en gedoopt 17 februari 1805 te Zuidland. Hij is overleden d.d. 13 september 1854 op 49 jarige leeftijd. Niet bekend is of Jacob gehuwd is geweest en of hij kinderen heeft gehad. Daardoor is ook niet bekend of door hem de naam Herwijnen of mogelijk toch Herrewijnen werd voortgezet. Het is dus niet uitgesloten dat er nog een Herwijnen rond loopt met familiebanden met de familie Herrewijnen. De andere elf kinderen van Jan Herwijnen en Anna Struijs kregen allen de naam HERREWIJNEN. Drie kinderen overleden op jonge leeftijd en 5 kinderen waren van het vrouwelijke geslacht. De broers Gerrit, Leendert, en Pieter kregen in totaal 14 kinderen. Gerrit kreeg 4 kinderen die allenop jeugdige leeftijd overleden. Pieter trouwde pas op 37 jarige leeftijd en kreeg 1 kind dat nog geen maand oud is geworden. Leendert kreeg 9 kinderen, 4 overleden op jonge leeftijd. Van de vijf overige kinderen was er 1 van het vrouwelijk geslachten 4 van het mannelijk geslacht, te weten Jan (13 kinderen), Leendert (3 kinderen die allen voor het eerste jaar overleden), Gerrit (1 zoon) en Cornelis (9 kinderen). Cornelis trok met zijn gezin naar Den Haag.
