Maria Rutten-Saintfiet, weduwe van Hubertus Wisse, had vier kinderen uit het eerste huwelijk Tiny, Jan, Fientje en Clemence en twee kinderen Berry en Nelly uit haar tweede huwelijk. Op de 22ste februari was de Heer Rutten met de fiets weg om eieren te kopen en bevond Maria zich met alle kinderen - met uitzondering van Berry die net naar school was - in huis toen de bommen en de klokken van de Stevenstoren op het huis vielen. Maria, Tiny, Fientje en Nelly kwamen hierbij om
