Hij werkte van 1910-1930 bij de PTT in Vlijmen en later in 's-Hertogenbosch (tot 1952) als medewerker loketdienst en later als chef seinzaal afdeling Morsetelegrammen. Als lid van een schaakclub speelde hij rond 1938 simultaan tegen de toenmalige wereldkampioen Max Euwe. Hij was een liefhebber van wandelen en fietsen.
