Op 3.6.1699 maken Geert Alvers Buttes en Trijntje Jans een huwelijkscontract op. Hierin wordt verklaard dat Gepke Alberts haar schoonzoon opneemt in haar behuizing het Eemsingh te Vlagtwedde, dat zij meijerwijze bewoont. Lang hebben zij niet gewoond op het Eemsingh, want op 28.12.1699 verkrijgt Geert Alvers Buttes door middel van naarkoop de erve Buttes in bezit.
Op 23.11.1720 wordt er door Trientje Jans, weduwe van Geert Alvers Buttes een acte opgemaakt, waarin zij verklaart dat "de plaetse waer haer kinderen zijn geboren niet in staet kan worden gehouden door de veelheid van haeren pupillen, sijnde 7 in getal en de kleinheit van de plaetse, sijnde maer 1200 Car. gld. weerdig". Het recht van de erfhouder wordt daarom overgedragen van de oudste zoon, Jan Buts, aan de oudste dochter Lamme Buts, omdat Jan nog maar 11 jaar oud is. Aan Jan zal worden uitgekeerd als hij gaat trouwen 250 Car. gld.. De andere kinderen krijgen elk 150 Car. gld..
