      Coster was een kleurrijk man. Het leven had hem streetwise gemaakt. Zijn vader liet zijn moeder in de steek, waardoor hij moest overleven. Als jongeman reed hij al op de motor naar Zwitserland. Daar kocht hij horloges die hij in zijn benzinetank over de grens smokkelde en verkocht in kroegen op de Wallen en aan marktkooplieden op het Waterlooplein. Daarom kreeg hij in Amsterdam de bijnaam Horloge Cor. Later werd hij diamantair en deed hij in onroerend goed, eigenlijk maakte het hem niet uit. Coster handelde in alles, als hij er maar aan verdiende. Hij was succesvol in de handel, het leverde hem welstand op, waardoor hij met zijn gezin op de duurste locaties van Amsterdam woonde. Ik heb nog meegemaakt dat het hem zó goed ging, dat hij 's avonds na acht uur niet meer wilde worden gebeld als hij aan dat telefoontje minder dan een ton verdiende. Zijn reputatie stond regelmatig ter discussie.
