    "Hij heeft zich door moedig optreden tegenover de vijand onderscheiden op 13 mei 1940 tijdens een tegenaanval op de Grebbeberg als ordonnans van C.-1-20 R.I. zich herhaaldelijk geheel vrijwillig beschikbaar te stellen voor het, onder vijandelijk vuur, uitvoeren van opdrachten en deze opdrachten op onverschrokken wijze uit te voeren. Voorts door in de morgen van de 14e mei 1940, toen een afdeling van ongeveer 100 man, waarbij hij zich bevond, plotseling van verschillende zijden op korte afstandwerd ingesloten, het terugtrekken van deze afdeling mogelijk te maken, door opspringende en zich ten volle bloothgevende een vurende vijandelijke mitrailleur, die de enige nog mogelijke terugtochtsweg afsloot, door enige goed gerichte schoten tot zwijgen te brengen.
