Richard A. Peene, 82, of Stumptown Rd., Ronks, passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2009 surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of June Tompkins Peene. Born June 12, 1927 in Yonkers, NY, he was the son of Hendrika and Alfred Peene. He served in the United States Army in Panama with the 149th ordinance battalion. He graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in mechanical engineering and held engineering positions at Sikorsky Aircraft and United Technologies in CT and as a consulting engineer at United Defense in York, PA. Richard had a very active mind and enjoyed model building, Civil War history, books, cinema and his computer. He was a member of Stumptown Mennonite Church.

Besides his devoted wife, Richard is survived by his son and daughter, William A. Peene of Kinzers, PA and Sandra P. McCurdy of Higganum, CT and four grandsons, William R., Matthew A., Kyle A. Peene of Kinzers, PA and Andrew R. McCurdy of Higganum, CT.

A memorial service to celebrate Richard's life will be held Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Stumptown Mennonite Church, 2813 Stumptown Rd., Bird-in-Hand. There will be no viewing. The family will greet friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pediatric Brain Tumor Research Fund, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Attn: Elise Cooke, 633 3rd Avenue, 28th Floor, New York, NY 10017.
