Maar er is ook een andere, hypothetische mogelijkheid en dat is dat het op het signet
afgebeelde familiewapen óók door de van oorsprong uit Oldenzaal afkomstige familie Meijlink gevoerd werd. De familie Meijlink, waarvan de genealogie in het
Nederfand's Patriciaat van 1984 (het zgn. blauwe boekje) gepubliceerd is, voerde
reeds sinds 1531 exact hetzelfde wapen als de familie Van Welvelde.

In dat jaar zegelde Johan Meijlink in zijn hoedanigheid van richter van het richterambt
Borne - waaronder Zenderen ressorteerde - met hetzelfde wapen als de familie
Van Welvelde. Niet onwaarschijnlijk is dat deze Johan het familiewapen van Van
Welvelde heeft 'geusurpeerd', aangezien hij niet over een aangeboren familiewapen
beschikte en als richter toch een eigen zegel moest hebben om officiële stukken te
kunnen bezegelen. Het toeval wilde dat ene Jan Michael Meijlink (1657-1731) meester-zilversmid te Oldenzaal was. Of hij het bedoelde zegelstempel voor zichzelf heeft
vervaardigd zal nog uitgezocht moeten worden, maar het kan ook zijn dat zijn zoon
Christoffer Meijlink ( c. 1700-1775), die zich plm. 1737 als wijnkoper te Amsterdam
vestigde, de opdracht tot de vervaardiging van het zegelstempel heeft gegeven.
Hoe dan ook, het is om het even van welke Sallandse of Twentse havezate het signet
afkomstig is, aangezien het daarop afgebeelde wapen van Van Wel velde (én Meijlink)
een Twentse oorsprong heeft! Het Van Deinse Instituut te Enschede kan opgelucht
ademhalen, de bij elkaar gesprokkelde 500 gulden voor de verwerving ervan zijn
gelukkig niet voor niets uitgegeven.
