Albert Meilink was 76 years old and died from lung cancer after a valiant fight. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of 50 years, as well as a son, Rodger Meilink, and a daughter, Karin Birmingham, both of the Los Angeles area; a sister, Jansje, Mechteld,

Johanna Mayer-Meilink who resides in Salzburg, Austria; and one grandson, Jack Stannard of Montana.

After receiving a Textile Engineering degree, and serving in the Dutch Army, Al lived and worked in various countries including Japan, Germany and the United States. Upon retirement in 1999 he moved permanently to Sunriver where he could enjoy the beauty and recreational opportunities offered in Central Oregon. Al could be found playing tennis, downhill skiing, fishing, kayaking, hiking, and attending the theatre and classical concerts. Al also enjoyed international travel and Dixieland Jazz Festivals and cruises. He was active in the Sunriver Mens Club, Sunriver Anglers Club, and the Sunriver Chamber of Commerce, volunteering his time as needed.
