Notes about Adriana Johanna van Varik

Almkerk (Brabants: Almkérk) is een plaats in het noorden van de provincie Noord-Brabant, hemelsbreed ongeveer 12 km ten zuiden van Gorinchem. De naam is afkomstig van de kerk die gebouwd was langs het riviertje de Alm. In 1277 wordt de naam "Almekercke" voor het eerst in geschriften aangetroffen. Het aantal bewoners was in 2004 ruim 3600. Almkerk maakt sinds 1973 deel uit van de gemeente Woudrichem en ligt in het Land van Heusden en Altena.

Het is sinds de reformatie een protestants dorp dat zich bevond op de overgang van het katholieke Brabant naar het protestantse Zuid-Holland. In de rivier de Alm bevond zich een oud sluisje, een zogenaamd verlaat (nu de naam van de sporthal "'t Verlaat"). Vroeger stond in het dorp een molen, waaraan de Molenwijk nog herinnert.

In de trouwaktes van Geereke en Anthonia Bronk wordt vermeld Adriana van Varik.
