Bep en Janus hebben elkaar ontmoet in de oorlog, toen zij beiden te werk waren gesteld in Drenthe, waar ze aardappels moesten rooien. Hun bruiloft in Rotterdam vond kort na de bevrijding plaats. Oom Rinus uit Gouda (broer van de moeder van opa) speelde accordeon en de mensen op straat sloten spontaan aan in de polonaise, denkende dat het om een bevrijdingsfeest ging!
