Op 26 december 1941 werden vier Dornier 24K vliegboten, die op de watervliegbasis bij Kakas op het Tondanomeer (Minahasa, noordoost Celebes) met volle benzinetanks gereedlagen voor actie, door Japanse jachtvliegtuigen uit Kema vernietigd. Daarbij kwamen sergeant-vlieger R. Siezen en vliegtuigmakersmaat C.


Bruinhout om het leven en raakte sergeant-vlieger G.J. Evers zwaar gewond. Sergeant-monteur C. van Dijk, die een schot door zijn arm gekregen had, redde sergeant Evers door met hem te blijven zwemmen tot een motorboot hen beiden uit het water kon komen halen. Op 4 januari overleed Evers in Soerabaja alsnog aan


zijn verwondingen. Op 1 februari 1942 werd de vliegbasis door de Japanners bezet en na deze actie werd inheems bediende Kardjo vermist.
