Met zieke en ernstig verzwakte ex-krijgsgevangenen vertrok vanaf Okinawa een B-24 Liberator bommenwerper naar Manilla.

Aan boord bevond zich schrijversmaat P.H. van Wingerden, die om het leven kwam toen het toestel op 10 september 1945 in de Grote Oceaan stortte.

Van Wingerden werd begraven op het Sai Wan War Cemetry te Hong Kong.
