Nach dem Studium der Theologie wurde er am l. August 1790 zum Priester geweiht und erhielt mit 27 Jahren in Asperden die Pfarrstelle, die er 47 Jahre inne hatte. Neben seiner Priesterarbeit machte er sich einen Namen als Pomologe oder wie die Einheimischen auch sagten, als „Apfelpastor", da er in einem Obstgarten Obstbäume züchtete und durch die Veröffentlichung einer Abhandlung über die Aufzucht und Pflege von Obstbäumen bekannt wurde. Im Volksmund hieß er „Äppel-Pitt". Er bemühte sich auch um die Erhaltung des vor Jahrhunderten von den Augustiner-Chorherren in Gaesdonck gezüchteten Apfelbaums, der sogenannten „Gaesdoncker Reinette". Bei seinem Ableben umfasste seine Obst-Baumschule in Asperden ca. 10.000, größtenteils veredelte, Stämme aller Obstgattungen.
