Notes about Teunis van der Aa
Op 13 november 1854 arriveerden Tunis, zijn vader Arie VanderAa (45 j, boer), zijn moeder Maggeltje (43), zijn broers Klaas (20), Grel (18) en Thijs (9) op het schip Mississippi uit Nederland, provincie Zuid -Holland in de haven van New York, Castle Garden. Tunis 'broer Gerrit (2) stierf aan boord van het schip en werd zeer waarschijnlijk op zee begraven, en twee broers met beide de naam Thijs stierven in Nederland in 1841 en 1842 toen ze twee jaar en een half jaar oud waren. Het is zeer waarschijnlijk dat de derde Thijs, geboren in 1843, spoedig stierf in Cook County, Illinois of Lake County, Indiana.
Op 11 januari 1857 werd T (e) unis geboren in Dolton, een dorp net ten zuiden van Chicago en ten noorden van de Nederlandse vrachtwagenboer nederzetting Zuid-Holland, Thornton Township, Cook County, Illinois.
