Jan en zijn tweede vrouw en familie kwamen op 25 september 1985 in Amerika aan.

Jan en zijn tweede vrouw Jentje (Jane) scheidden rond 1860 en Jan ging naar Munster, Indiana om met twee van zijn kinderen te leven uit zijn eerste huwelijk, Stoffer en Maartje (Martha). Jan stierf en wordt daar begraven. Jentje (Jane) verbleef in Zuid-Holland, Illinois om met haar kinderen te leven van haar huwelijk met Jan. Ze woonde met haar dochter Marrigje (Mary) (Vinke) VanZanten toen ze stierf in 1880 na 1880 en is begraven in Thornton, Illinois .
