Gerritdina Johanna Braakhekke was negentien jaar en werkte sinds een aantal jaren als
dienstbode in Deventer. Ze was bij haar familie aan de Rijksstraatweg in Twello, toen een
bominslag haar fataal werd.

Slachtoffer van de oorlog

Gerrie kwam 's morgens om 09.15 uur om het leven bij een bombardement van 7 Amerikaanse bommenwerpers op de spoorlijn van Deventer naar Apeldoorn ter hoogte van het station Twello en het naastgelegen fabriekscomplex van exportslachterij Zendijk. Er kwam ook een bom terecht aan de Rijksstraatweg dicht bij het huis van Ome Willem, waar Gerrie buitenshuis getroffen werd door rondvliegende scherven en ter plaatse overleed. Bij dit bombardement lieten nog 4 andere burgers bij de spoorlijn het leven, getuige een plaquette ter plaatse.
