    Het 'Joods monument' in Steenwijk (gemeente Steenwijkerland) herinnert aan 51 joodse medeburgers die de Tweede Wereldoorlog niet hebben overleefd. In de zomer van 1942 (waarschijnlijk eind juli/ begin augustus) werd een aantal Steenwijker joden in een werkkamp bij Staphorst ondergebracht en tewerkgesteld. Ongeveer de helft van de joodse inwoners van Steenwijk wist met hulp (die niet alleen uit Steenwijk afkomstig was) onder te duiken en zo de bezetting te overleven. De meeste anderen werden naar de kampen in het oosten gedeporteerd en aldaar vermoord. Twee personen pleegden zelfmoord en één persoon stierf in Kamp Westerbork; ook zij behoren tot de 51 Steenwijkse joden die met dit monument herdacht worden.
