Toen zij trouwden hadden zij reeds een zoon die 18 jaar oud was. Zijn ouders gaven geen toestemming voor het huwelijk vanwege een standsverschil. Deze familie Dorland was rijk en zij kwam uit een arbeidersgezin. Zij zijn met hun zoon in circa 1926 naar Ned.Indie vertrokken waar Dirk (de vader) een leidinggevende baan bij de spoorwegen kreeg in de buurt van Batavia. Dirk kreeg daar malaria is daar gestorven en zijn vrouw is met zoon Dirk terug naar Nederland gegaan in 1928. De familie Hendrik van Dorland en Adriana G.v.d.Berg hebben te Apeldoorn gewoond, zij hadden een dienstmeisje genaamd Hendrika Rouwenhorst, zij is zwanger geworden van zoon Dirk, het kind ook Dirk genaamd werd geboren 18-10-1908.
