Wolf diende tijdens de oorlog in de KNIL als Officier van Gezondheid 1e klasse in de rang van Luitenant-Kolonel. Hij kwam in krijgsgevangenschap terecht in een Japans gevangenenkamp op Sumatra en voer op 25-06-1944 vanuit de haven van Belawang op Sumatra om dwangarbeid te gaan verrichten aan de Sumatra-spoorlijn, ook wel Pakan Baroe-spoorlijn genoemd. Wolf bevond zich met honderden andere gevangenen aan boord van de Harukiki Maru. Onderweg werd dit schip getorpedeerd en verdronken zo'n 115 opvarenden, waaronder Wolf.
