Notes about Judith Lopes Dias

Judith Berklou-Lopes Dias woonde tussen haar kinderen en bezocht elke dag alle kinderen die al uit huis waren. Als zij er één een dag niet gezien had, praatte zij die meteen een schuldgevoel aan door te zeggen: "Je moeder had al wel dood en begraven kunnen zijn".

Haar middelste zoon had samen met zijn broer Jacob eerst één, later vier slagerijen in Amsterdam. Daar haalde zij ook haar vlees.
Na haar bestelling deed zij soms nogmaals exact dezelfde bestelling, waarop haar zonen vroegen: "Moeder hebben we vanavond een feestje?" "Neen hoor, had zij gezegd, je broer heeft geen werk." Betaald werd er nooit!
Door die vier slagerijen, de broers woonden nog thuis, moest zij elke dag meerdere witte slagersjassen wassen, stijven en strijken. Daarnaast was zij ook nog “snijdster”, waarbij ze zorgde voor het slijpsel dat nodig was om diamant te slijpen en had zij ook nog een soort café/koffiehuis. In de avond kookte ze ook nog eens voor 10/20 man. Niemand heeft ooit begrepen hoe zij dit alles combineerde. Wanneer ze allemaal kwamen eten werden er twee tafels op afstand verbonden met planken, waar lakens overheen werden gelegd.

Judith Berklou-Lopes Dias woog op latere leeftijd slechts vijftig kilo. Eén van haar nog in huis wonende dochters Margaretha (Marietje) woog honderd kilo. Haar zonen hebben haar ooit letterlijk op de kast gezet. Ze zou “brutaal “ zijn geweest en hebben haar daar minstens vijftien minuten laten zitten.

De bijnaam van Judith Berklou-Lopes Dias was “Dikkie”. Niemand heeft ooit begrepen waarom haar echtgenoot haar zo noemde. Ze heeft ook nog een tijd naast het Rembrandthuis gewoond, op de eerste etage, aan de Jodenbreestraat tegenover het Gossler huisje. Dit staat er nog steeds.
