Gerrit Meents was een zoon van Hartog David Meents en Jansje de Brave. Hij huwde Lea Fles in 1897 in Amsterdam. Hij woonde met haar in de Reitzstraat in Amsterdam Oost. Het echtpaar kreeg vijf kinderen: Marianna, Jetje, Saartje, Emanuel en een kind dat de oorlog heeft overleefd
Lea Fles is in juli 1940 overleden, waarna Gerrit Meents is hertrouwd met Sara Beesemer op 10 september 1941. Zij stond in 1940 nog geregistreerd als weduwe Sara Papegaaij-Beesemer wonende aan de Plantage Middenlaan 40. Het laatste woonadres van Gerrit Meents en Sara Meents-Beesemer was Lepelkruisstraat 11 II in Amsterdam.
