In 1919 nam Joseph Aron Zendijk de Twellose Exportslachterij over. De fabriek was in de oorlogsjaren in moeilijkheden gekomen doordat de uitvoer van baconspek naar Engeland stagneerde vanwege de dreiging van Duitse U-boten op de Noordzee. De familie Zendijk was al in het bezit van aandelen van de fabriek. De vleesindustrie was groot in de negentiende eeuw in de IJsselstreek en vooral ook in Olst. Omstreeks 1875 telde Olst meer dan twintig kleine slagerijen, waarbij het bedrijf van Zendijk de stijgende vraag naar vleesproducten en de schaalvergroting goed kon opvangen. De grootste bloeiperiode voor Zendijk was waarschijnlijk ten tijde van de Eerste Wereldoorlog, toen veel geld werd verdiend met de export naar het oorlogvoerende Duitsland. Ook de jaren 50 van de twintigste eeuw waren goede jaren, daarna liep de handel terug. De vleesfabriek in Olst heeft tot 1970 bestaan, toen werd het bedrijf
overgenomen. In 1975 stopte het bedrijf helemaal.
