Notes about Jacobus Radix

Jacobus zijn zoon Joannes was korperaal bij het Regiment Nationalen de Petit nr. 15 (IR 643a) van Crommelin. Door in de dtb de garnizoenplaatsen van dit regiment te speuren komen we eindelijk meer te weten over de voorgeschiedenis van de familie Radix in Nederland.
Jacobus Radix wordt voor het eerst genoemd op 24-06-1712 in Geertruidenberg bij de doop van zijn dochter Joanna Catharina.
Doopgetuigen nominati waren Joannes Radix en Catharina Radix. Of Jacobus, vermeld als militair, daarbij zelf aanwezig was is niet zeker. Het regiment van Berckhoffer was toen al vertrokken.
Jacobus diende dus ook in in het Regiment Nationalen de Petit nr.15 (IR 643a) onder Berckhoffer, vanaf 1726 onder Crommelin. Hij was sergeant. Het regiment verbleef o.a. in de barrièresteden. Dit waren vestingsteden tegen de Franse agressie.

Jacobus woonde in 1746 bij geboorte van zijn eerste kleinkind in het fort Wierickerschans bij Bodegraven.
Op het fort werden voornamelijk soldaten gestationeerd die niet konden worden ingezet in actieve krijgsdienst. Vanaf 1752 was er een ‘detachement invalides’ gevestigd.
