Gerrit Jacobus was bijna zijn hele leven werkzaam bij dagblad De Telegraaf op de afdeling boekhouding en getrouwd met Clara Bartolina Christina Ekker. Zij kregen 2 kinderen, Gerrit Eduard van der Linde en Hendrik van der Linde, en woonden in de Jekerstraat in Amsterdam Zuid.

Zij zijn rond 1938 van tafel en bed gescheiden. Gerrit Jacobus is op de Koninginneweg in Amsterdam gaan wonen en Clara is in 1940 in het huis aan Lorentzlaan nr. 19 in Heemstede gaan wonen.

Hij is in 1944 door de duitsers opgepakt en geïnterneerd in Vught.

Na de oorlog werd Gerrit Jacobus van der Linde in 1945 directeur van dagblad De Telegraaf en heeft die functie bekleed tot aan zijn dood in 1950. Zie voor details de kopie van het personeelsblad ‘Opbouw’; waarin zijn carrière wordt beschreven en zijn overlijden aangekondigd.
