En 1020, Guéric le Sor, seigneur d'Avesnes , s'empare de Leuze par la force en prétextant être l'héritier de Gérard de Roussillon.

Guéric 1er le Sor épouse une fille de Rasson de Chièvres et décède vers 1065. Seigneur assez remuant et souvent en conflit avec le comte de Hainaut et la ville de Tournai , il fortifie Leuze et également Grammont et Lessines . Plus tard, il finit par rendre hommage au comte de Hainaut.
Avant 1057, la rive droite face à la ville de Tournai était une avouerie exercée par les châtelains de Leuze au nom des comtes de Flandre. dir="ltr">
