Notes about Elbert Graaf Van Isendoorn à Blois Tot Cannenburg
Elbert van Isendoorn, geboren in 1601, is de kleinzoon van Hendrik van Isendoorn en hij is degene die het kasteel naar het westen uitbreidt. Door zijn eerste huwelijk met Hadewig van Essen verkrijgt hij het abt van dijkgraaf van Veluwe, een niet-onaanzienlijke functie. Zijn vrouw stierf in 1646 bij de geboorte van een dochter. De oude ruïne is tot dat moment onbebouwd gebleven. In de jaren 1661-1664 volgt de uitbreiding van de Cannenburch aan de westelijke zijde. Die uitbreiding komt – niet ontoevallig vlak na zijn tweede huwelijk in 1658. Elbert van Isendoorn is dan al 57 jaar en trouwt met de vermogende Odilia van Wassenaer. Odilia brengt vermogen en bezittingen in, onder andere landerijen in Holland. Maar tot het erfdeel van Odilia hoort ook het regentschap van het Hofje van Nieuwkoop in Den Haag. Tot het uitsterven van de Van Isendoorns in 1865 hebben zij dit regentschap bekleed. Het grondbezit van Odilia in het westen wordt echter te gelde gemaakt, omop die manier geld te verkrijgen om het grondbezit rond Vaassen, dat in de 17e eeuw nog niet groot was, uit te kunnen breiden. Overigens wordt dit grondbezit pas in de 18e eeuw aanzienlijk, en dan profiteren de Van Isendoorn's van enorme opbrengsten op momenten van oorlog, wanneer de graanimport stil lag. Ook in rijke oogstjaren waren de opbrengsten in die tijd groot. In enkele jaren zelfs zo groot, dat de rentmeester zich niet meer er om bekommerde op te schrijven wat de uitgaven waren. Odilia stierf ook in het kraambed, in 1672, maar zij had al twee stamhouders nagelaten. Elbert stierfin 1680.
