Notes about Pieter Leonard van de Kasteele

prom. te Leiden in 1771 en vestigde zich als advocaat in Den Haag. In 1773 werd hij amanuensis der commissie voor de nieuwe psalmberijming. Negen jaar later werd hij pensionaris, doch geraakte als patriot sinds 1785 buiten ambten. Na de omwenteling tot 22 Jan. was hij lid, en na den dood van Pieter Paulus voorz. der Nat. verg., verder in den raad van financiën. Onder koning Lodewijk werd hij staatsraad in gewonen dienst. Hij overl. in zijne geboorteplaats 7 April 1810.


 


Zijne werken zijn: (met H. van Alphen) Proeve van Stigtelijke Mengelpoëzie, Utr. 1772 (5 uitgaven); Gezangen, Utr. 1790; Vertaling van Ossian, Amst. 1793; Oden van Klopstock en Wieland, Haarl.1798. In Tydemans Mnemosyne: Hulde aan de Zon. Zijn ontworpen heldendicht, Henoch, bleef onvoltooid en ongedrukt. Al zijne gedichten werden verzameld door zijn kleinzoon, Mr. J.C. van de Kasteele, 2 dln., 's-Hage 1844 en '45.
