Notes about Freerk Leffers

Freerk boerde er al een tijdje, maar pas na het overlijden van zijn vader (1903) werd hij eigenaar van de grond en de boerderij aan het Tweede Dwarsdiep. Maar niet voor lang, want het was al een tijdje duidelijk dat de Noordoosterlocaalspoorweg Maatschappij (N.O.L.S.) een verbinding wilde maken tussen Stadskanaal en Assen. Deze spoorlijn was gepland over het Tweede Dwarsdiep, tussen de boerderijen van Harm Hooiveld en Jan Kruit in, precies waar Freerk Leffers z'n boerderij stond. De gronden waarover de spoorbaan moest worden aangelegd werden "in der minne" aan de N.O.L.S. overgedragen. Dat betekende dat er geen onteigeningsprocedures waren en dat ieder tevreden was met de geboden vergoeding. De boerderij van Freerk werd in 1904 afgebroken en de resten werden (mede) gebruikt voor de bouw van een nieuwe boerderij, toen huisnummer 193, na 1931 huisnummer 223, nu Dideldomweg 1. Op donderdag 15-06-1905 werd de lijn officieel voor publiek opengesteld.
Op 04-05-1947 werd op lijn Assen - Stadskanaal gestopt met reizigersvervoer. Op 28-05-1972 werd de lijn Assen - Stadskanaal gesloten.
Toen Freerk stopte met boeren ging hij wonen in Stadskanaal. Eerst in een groot oud huis, later lieten ze een kleiner huisje bouwen. Freerk was daar vaak in de bloementuin te vinden.
Hij had goed geboerd, want had er intussen voor gezorgd dat hij drie boerderijen bezat, die hij verpachte aan zijn zonen:
Jan: Dideldomweg 3, Gasselternijveenschemond
Albert: Dideldomweg 1, Gasselternijveenschemond
Willem: Emmer Compascuüm
