De kinderen uit het tweede huwelijk van Arie Leeflang zijn eerst nadat hun vader was overleden op de hoogte gesteld over het eerste huwelijk van hun vader en over de in dit huwelijk geboren kinderen. Er is tussen de kinderen uit het eerste en tweede huwelijk nooit contact geweest. Moeder Jacomijntje heeft destijds wel verteld dat het eerste huwelijk geen gelukkig huwelijk was geweest.

De kinderen van Arie Leeflang zien terug op een geweldige vader, die een goed huwelijk heeft gehad met hun moeder. Samen hebben ze veel meegemaakt. Vader Arie had destijds samen met zijn broer Jan een schildersbedrijf in Rotterdam. Door een ongeluk raakte Arie ernstig gewond waardoor hij later dit beroep niet meer kon uitvoeren. Mede daardoor is hij naar de Blesse in Friesland verhuisd. Daar had Arie een chauffeurscafe, waar ook heel veel familie te logeren is geweest.

Tussen de geboorte van Willie in 1950 en Arie in 1958 werd er nog een jongetje geboren dat maar kort heeft geleefd. Het had een open ruggetje en een waterhoofd. Moeder Jacomijntje heeft het haar leven lang moeilijk gehad met dit vroeg overleden kindje.

In 1962 kwam Arie Leeflang in Elburg wonen. Arie Leeflang adverteerde vanaf 1962 in de Elburger Courant en in het Nunspeets Nieuwsblad met zijn Taxibedrijf en autorijschool, Tuinstraat 22, Elburg. Rond 1966 werd als adres Schipluidenstraat 18, Elburg gevoerd. In "De Elburger Courant" en "Het Nunspeets Nieuwsblad" verschijnen dan advertenties met de tekst "Wij geven geen valse voorlichting maar wel prima rijles in Opel record; Opel cadet en Volkswagen 1500. Aanvraag rij- examen volgens kosten C.B.R. f 14,50. Theorie examen gratis in Oldebroek en Elburg. Erkende rijschool A. Leeflang. [ U wordt gratis thuisgehaald en gebracht]"

Dochter Trudie vertelt uit haar herinneringen nog het volgende.

Een leuke anekdote:
Mijn vader was een groot voetbal- en schaatsfan en dacht ooit dat hij een grote prijs had gewonnen met de voetbaltoto. Hij had tot zijn grote vreugde alle nummers goed. Arie ging met zijn gezin gelijk uit eten en iedereen mocht nemen wat ze maar wilden. Later bleek dat half Nederland alle 13 nummers goed had. Er was meer opgegeten dan er gewonnen werd! Haha!

En dan nu nog eentje :
Mijn vader was altijd een man die voor iedereen klaar stond en mijn moeder was idem dito uit hetzelfde hout gesneden. Daarom was het bij ons van tijd tot tijd een drukte van jewelste. Iedereen was welkom. Wij hadden soms hele vakanties familie op bezoek. Dat betekende vaak ook hele rijen kunstgebitten in bakjes op het aanrecht. Maar ja, dat stond niet zo fris als je klanten kreeg van de autorijschool. Dus mijn vader dacht op een ochtend; 'Weet je wat? ik verwissel al die kunstgebitjes.' Zo gezegd, zo gedaan. Iedereen had iets anders in zijn bakje en mond. Haha. Nooit geen bakjes meer op het aanrecht. En dat was mijn vader; altijd in voor een grapje.
