I am descended from Paul Dieteman who was born in the 1700's in Traubach le Bas. Paul's son Paul married Catherine Soldner in 1774 and had four children: John, Joannes, Anna Marie, and a second Anna Marie when the first passed away. It was a common practice to name children after others who had passed away in infancy. Paul's son John married Frances Soldener in 1813. They had five children: John Charles, Catherine, Blaise, George, Paul. I am descended from John Charles who married Maria Agnes Kempf. They came from Alsace France to the U.S. through NYC, Buffalo, then Allegany, NY. It is believed that some of John's other brothers came over and settled in other parts of the country but my research has not located them or which brothers they were. John and Maria had 9 children: Frank, Mary Agnes, John, Catherine, Stephen, Magdalene, Anna, Henry, and George. Henry was my great grandfather. Henry married Caroline Grader and had 8 children: Charles John, Andrew, Dora, Clarence, Ernest, Leonarda, Lawrence, and Mary Josephine. Clarence was my grandfather. Clarence married Clara Schumann. They had two children: Helen and Robert. Robert is my father.
I'm not sure if this is helpful to you or not. I would very much like to find the other brothers who came over besides John Charles. I have photos of the families head stones from the St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Allegany, NY. The family has pretty much stayed there. My aunt Helen is still living in Allegany and celebrated her 80th birthday this summer. She is very sharp and remembers many details about the family. She's a great resource and I go back to visit her as much as possible. If you have any questions you'd like me to ask her just let me know. Hope to hear from you again soon.
