De begrafenis zal plaats hebben op Donderdag 3 Maart a.s. op de Algemene Begraafplaats. Vertrek van het sterfhuis 2 uur.

In het adresboek van De Bilt en Bilthoven van 1937 stond C. van Ekdom, wonende Utrechtscheweg 277 nog als schipper aangemerkt, evenals W.van Ekdom jr., die op de Hessenweg woonachtig was. Diverse mensen bleken het beroep van √¨voermanâˆšÆ uit te oefenen. A.Ekdom was brandstoffenhandelaar, wonende op de Rembrandtlaan en J.Ekdom schilder, gevestigd aan de Leijenscheweg. Opgemerkt zij, dat de familie Ekdom het voorvoegsel √¨van√Æ, behorend bij hun achternaam, in de loop der jaren kennelijk was
kwijt geraakt.
De heer A.Ekdom jr., zoon van de brandstoffenhandelaar en kleinzoon van W.Ekdom sr., vertelde dat hij in de oorlogsjaren als jong maatje meevoer op schuiten van zijn vader en ooms Willem en Cornelis. Behalve brandstoffen, zand en grind werden er vaten bier vervoerd, komende uit Amsterdam van de
Amstel- en de Heinekenbrouwerijen. Ook zakken suiker van de Amsterdamse suikerfabriek Wester behoorden tot de te vervoeren vracht. Kort na de oorlog was het echter met het schippersvak gedaan. Het wegtransport nam het vervoer over. De firma Ekdom uit Zeist nam in 1949 de laatste boot uit de vaart. Sindsdien zijn er geen schippers meer in de Biltse Grift te zien.
