Notes about Joseph ROSENBLATT

From the mariageregisters in Bettendorf. Joseph Rosenblatt was 77 years old when Marie Anne Rosenblatt married in 1823 and he lived in Grentzingen.

From 'Les Vieilles familles du Sundgau', ed. 2, page 119:
' In the begin of the 18th century, the grainmill of Bettendorf
belonged to Georges ROSENBLATT. In this mill Marguerite WALTER, widow
of Jean Jacques RITZMAN, dictated in may 1732 her last will
('notariat d'Altkirch'). Georges ROSENBLATT is without doubt the one
who married on 14 july 1715 in Bettendorf with Marie Marguerite
JELTSCH of Hirsingue. He is probably the son of Joachim ROSENBLATT
(married Marie WALTER of Bettendorf in 1684). Joachim had indeed a
son called Georges who was baptised in 1687 in Grentzingen (the
couple lived in Oberdorf) and his wife originally was from
Bettendorf. The Rosenblatt-branche of Grentzingen-Oberdorf continued
to grow and at the end of the 18th century in the lists for the
provincial army there appeared three 'Rosenblatt's': Henri, labourer,
Jean Adam, also labourer and Joseph, 'cordonnier' (shoemaker). In the
19th century Auguste Rosenblatt, born in Oberdorf, went for the
adventure in America: he asked for a passeport for New York in 1866.
In 1835 Marie ROSENBLATT had place a cross in Grentzingen, on the
road to Willer.'
