Notes about Hendrika BOEVE

June, I thought that I had a much better picture of Jimmy Heezen than this. In this picture is Florence Heezen holding their youngest daughter, Nancy, then Jimmy, Jeanette and Ike. I feel quite sure that I had sent Kathy a better picture than this, but can't find anything in My Pictures. We got a different scanner and I haven't been successful in getting this scanner to work for me. I will go look through my parent's pictures and see if I can't find a better pic of Jimmy. I'm going to send you some other pics that you might be interested in.

If you have any questions about the Heezen families, I would be happy to try to answer anything that I can. I could also ask my oldest brother, Sonny, who probably knows more than I do. Sonny is 15 yrs. old than I and he remembers some of the family that I don't or didn't know. I like genealogy, but I especially like the stories behind every family.

I don't know if you knew that my grandmother, Hattie Boeve Heezen left her husband, Ben Heezen, in approx. 1933 and moved to Praire View, Kansas. She lived with her mother, Gazina Boeve, and her half-brother, Jim, and nephew Alan, till 1938 when Hattie's mother died. After that Hattie moved to Denver, CO where she worked.
Ben and Hattie Heezen were never legally divorced. My grandpa, Ben, died in 1959. I remember one time when my grandparents both were at my parent's house for a family Christmas. The tension in that house seemed high. I wonder if it was the first and only time that they were in the same house after they separated. I think that financial problems may have what started their marital problems considering the depression and drought in the 1930's. My grandfather was physically abusive to his wife possibly after drinking too much and that's the reason that she finally left him. Ben and Hattie's two youngest children, Minnie and Arthur "Bub" went to Kansas with their mother and I think later went to Denver also. My grandpa lived in a little house approx. 1/2 mile south of Ames Store ( a little house south and west of Miller).

One of my oldest cousins, Gene Shaw, would also be a great source of family stories. Gene and his wife, Mary, both have sharp memories. If I would ask, I think they would be happy to email me any answers to questions that we may have. Let me know if there's anything that you would like to ask them.

June, I see that we are the same age. I'm a little older though. My name is Betty Jean Heezen Stewart and my birthday is April 6, 1950. I think it's interesting that a descendant of Lena Heezen Kuyper (Betty Jean Vlasman was married the same day that I was born).

Bye for now ~ Betty
