Notes about Roelof SCHOLTEN

Roelof was born 16 Oct 1824. Roelof was a professional soldier who served in the Netherlands East Indies. When he returned to Zutphen in 1850, his army-acquired habit of heavy drinking became so bad that he was confined in the Gasthuis (asylum) from 1853 to 1879. After that Roelof, Jr. became a shoemaker in Eefde, just outside Zutphen.
He had two marriages, the first toTheodora Charlotte Gaijkhorst, whom he married with he was 56 years old, The second was to Elizabeth Graffelman. There are no children on record, but Elizabeth brought a child into the marriage. His name is unknown.
