Als Claesje 18 maanden oud is overlijdt zijn vader Bastiaan. Moeder Gijsje hertrouwt op 15 juni 1754 met de rooms katholieke Gerrit van Wieringen. Dit huwelijk blijft kinderloos.
Hij is gebo ren in een protestantse familie en wordt op latere leeftijd katholiek.
Door zijn huwelijk met een hoveniersdochter werd hij hovennier en heeft dit beroep in de familie gebracht.
Claes tr ouwde op 31 jarige leeftijd, op 5 april 1783 in Utrecht met Hermijntje van Nooy, 32 jaar oud.
Claes is de stamvader van de RK-Jongerius-tak en eerste voorvader die hovenier werd en woonde in de wijk 'Abstede' in Utrecht.
Men trof rond de stad Utrecht een groot aantal hovenierderijen aan. Het adresboek van 1900 noemt maar liefst 175 hoveniers in Abstede, buiten Tolsteeg, de Hogenoord, Pijlsweerd, enz. Ieder kende hun namen. Een hovenier heette Achterberg, Jongerius, dce Rijk, van der Steen, van Zijl. Hij was katholiek of oud-katholiek. Hij trouwde in eigen kring en was verknocht a an zijn grond.
