Adrianus was van beroep Visser ,Vissloep Schipper in 1887 <21 jaar oud > op de PR 2 , Watergeus en 1904-1910 op de PR 2 , Speelman II
Adrianus voer als schipper op het schip de Maassluis 144, genaamd "Nil Desperandum", met een Pernisser bemanning op 17 juli 1918 ter beugvisserij op de Noordzee. Op 20 juli 5 uur is het vaartuig nog gezien door de Maassluis 51 in de buurt van het lichtschip Doggersbank-Zuid. Sindsdien heeft men niets meer vernomen over het vaartuig. Op de sloepenrol stonden de schipper Adrianus Noordzij, 50 jaar, IJmuiden, stuurman Arend Wittekoek (40 jaar), matrozen Leendert Noordzij (34 jaar), Klaas van Vliet (32 jaar), Arie Hans (28 jaar), H. Spruijt (53 jaar), G. Verschoor (43 jaar), H. Koudijzer (39 jaar), oudejongen Herman Meijboom (18 jaar), middeljongen Piet Hans (16 jaar), inbakker L. van der PLas (16 jaar), kleine jingen Arie Verhagen (13 jaar), speeljongen B. Reijngoudt (15 jaar). Aldus een bericht uit het.

De kapitein van een Duitse onderzeeër heeft het volgende verhaal op zijn sterfbed gedaan: Hij was de Maassluis 144 's nachts tegen gekomen en had hem op sleeptouw genomen. Op een gegeven moment had hij debemanning van de Maassluis 144 bevolen zich van boord te begeven en aan boord van zijn schip te komen. Waarschijnlijk heeft hij hun wel de tijd gegeven om hun spullen te pakken. Toen de bemanning aan boord van zijn schip was, heeft hij de Maassluis 144 getorpedeerd, terwijl de vissers op het dek van de onderzeeër stonden en moesten toekijken. Toen dot gebeurd was, heeft hij het luik gesloten en is met zijn boot onder water verdwenen, de vissers op het dek van de onderzeeër achterlatend! Op 22 augustus 1918 spoelden.
op het eiland Trichen, in de mond van de Elbe, twee lichamen aan, die in vergevorderde staat van ontbinding verkeerden. Zij zijn op het kerkhof daar ter aarde besteld. In de kleding van de drenkelingen werden foto's, een brief, papiertjes met adressen en een portemonnaie met inhoud gevonden. Omdat de vissers dit bij zich hadden kun je ervan uitgaan dat zij de tijd hebben gehad om hun spullen te pakken, want normaal had een visser nooit zijn portemonnaie en foto's bij zich. Op 30 december 1919 kregen de ouders van Piet en Arie Hans het bericht dat het zo goed als zeker om de stoffelijke overschotten van hun zonen ging. Het geld dat de drenkelingen bij zich hadden is gebruikt om de kosten van de begrafenis te dekken.
