Gegeven te Assen, den 19 jul 1844. Zoon van Roelf Berends BATHOORN (van PEIZE) (zie 240) en Gesien Derks (Geesje) VOS (zie 241).

Berend Bathoorn had als bijnaam "Opa Dak", hij woonde in bij zijn oudste zoon Arij, en vertoefde vrijwel de gehele dag op zijn zolderkamertje bij zijn verzameling klokken, het verhaal gaat dat hij daar ver over de 300 klokken bij elkaar had gebracht, dat kamertje bevond zich boven in het huis tegen het dak aan, vandaar de bijnaam Opa Dak.
